Lavastone Steakhouse
Lavastone Steakhouse 417 East Coast Road, 429004
Wow! The Lava Stone Steak House. Personally, I am not a great fan of steak but having seen so many positive reviews about this place; I just had to pay it a visit. I brought my apprentice there and had a meal to try it out for ourselves.
The name itself hints about the food they serve and we were not disappointed by the meal. Tucked at the end of East Coast Road, along a string of shop houses, we managed to navigate our way to the shop front. As you walk along the stretch, it would be hard to miss it.
We ordered the Sirloin and Ribeye steak. It is a set for 2 at a decent price of $78, and comes with fries and a bottle of ice water. I was informed that it was a new promotion.
We were then served with the 2 different steaks on a shared 400 degrees burning hot stone. We were glad to have a very helpful waiter to assist us, cutting and grilling the meat.
The Sirloin steak was initially a challenge to cut and even the waiter himself faced difficulty cutting the meat. I would suggest that for those who are experiencing a meal at this place for the first time, it would be good to get the staff assistance. Without any assistance you could run the risk of overcooking the meat till it gets dry.
While everyone prefers their steak at difference levels of the meat being cooked, mine would have to be medium rare. I would highly recommend getting an individual hot stone rather than sharing one with a friend because it would be quite a challenge fitting all the meat on the significantly smaller shared stone. It is also quite difficult to cook on the hot stone and you are only given 10 minutes to cook because the hot stone would lose its heat after that time.
Overall I felt that it was a good meal however it may not be for those who do not appreciate cooking on a hot stone grill.
