While it is always good to read and to listen about people’s success stories, the story of Benny is truly an inspiring one. We visited one of the outlets of 18 Chefs to find out for ourselves whether the dishes that people were praising were in fact legitimate.
We went over to the outlet at Orchard Cineleisure and despite it being a Wednesday, the dinner time queue was amazing long. I was told that there were bookings for 11 tables before us but not wanting to miss this chance to dine here, we waited patiently for our turn.
Having observed from the queue, the restaurant was so packed and given the number of staffs that they had, everyone was working their fair share of workload in quite an orderly fashion. And finally, when it was our turn, we were ushered to our seats.
Now in the menu, they do have a good selection of food and they really do know what dishes to place in the menu because they not complicated, straight forward dishes which students will appreciate or like. The food menu ranged from a series of pastas to Fish & Chips, Teriyaki Chicken, Striploin Steak, Rib Eye Steak to Japanese Curry Beef Rice, Sweet and Sour Chicken just to name a few. Trust me, they really know what locals commonly like to eat.
A buddy of mine got the Japanese Curry Beef Rice while I went for the Teriyaki Chicken. We too ordered a snack platter.
The food tasted ok but for the price you are paying, don’t expect anything fantastic. The Japanese Curry Beef Rice wasn’t as spicy as what my friend wanted it to be and in actual fact, it was not spicy at all. The beef was a little tough to bite. Thankfully my Teriyaki Chicken tasted better and was tender. However, the teriyaki sauce was a little salty. As for the snack platter, it tasted average but it came in a decent portion.
It was a good dining experience and I am sure given the inspiring stories going around the restaurant, it is going to be very interesting to see how far they are going to go in the F&B industry.
